MM Filmprodukties was a Netherlands-based dynamic independent production company specialised in feature length documentaries and documentary series mainly related to themes on the cutting-edge of culture, for the national and international market.

Producer/Director Joost Verhey received his education in Cultural and Visual Anthropology. After graduation he worked as a director of documentaries and company films and started MM Filmprodukties in 1984. In 2000 he finished the first one year post-graduate Management Training for Producers at the Maurits Binger Film Institute in Amsterdam and the Media Business School at Lubeck, Germany. He directed and produced numerous acclaimed and prize winning documentaries for MM Filmprodukties and he continues to work as a producer for the production company Doc.Eye Film.

AFRICAN BRIDE
The retired Belgian ex-paratrooper Gilbert rents a house in Diani Beach, Kenya. He loves the climate, the beer and the local women: ‘Once you go black, you always go black’. But finding real love is more difficult. African Bride shows in a tragicomic, sometimes painful way how prejudices and cultural differences make the relationship between Gilbert and his African girl-friends virtually impossible.

LOMAX THE SONGHUNTER
A musical roadmovie about the route that Alan Lomax took across America and remote villages in Europe. The film also tells Lomax’s story by interviewing friends such as Pete Seeger, using archival recordings of music greats Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly, and gathering footage of the cotton fields, rock quarries and prisons where Alan Lomax captured America’s quintessential music.

AICHA
Documentary about the search of the Somali foster daughter Aïcha to the balance between the culture she originates from and the culture she lives in: a search to her mother, to her native country and to where her future will be.

Documentary about “AMA’s”: single minors requesting asylum who are followed during their procedures while living together in a AMA-house in the Netherlands.

FOOLISH MOTHERS OF TURKEY
Documentary about the ‘Saturday mothers’, mothers who have been protesting for three years in the heart of Istanbul against the disappearance of their sons, daughters or husbands.

IN MY FATHER’S HOUSE
The documentary centers around the directors personal quest for her father’s love. By refusing to marry as a virgin, she went against the tradition and her father’s will.

MISS INTERPRETED (MARLENE DUMAS)
A documentary about the famous south-African artist Marlene Dumas. On the basis of archive footage, video footage, paintings and drawings, all edited in an associative way, an image is presented of a woman living on the fracture zone of politics and history.

GANTENBEIN
A documentary about a brain operation on Gijs van Eijck that went wrong. As a result of this, his memory is unstable and his body partly paralyzed. These far reaching effects put an enormous strain upon him and his family.

INTO THE WIND
Documentary about Paul Wahlen. Owner-Captain of probably the last sailing freight ship in the Western world. We follow him and his inexperienced crew on their rough journey to the Canary Island Lanzarote.

BRAM
The documentary shows the story of the blind soundartist Bram, in which she unfolds her vision on the world of sounds. She turns sounds into compositi¬ons that, like a mirror, reflect back on the sighted world which appears deaf to the chaos of sound in which it lives.

ROUCH’S GANG
The main subject of this documentary is the unique friendship and working-relationship between Jean Rouch, famous French director and his three African friends, Damouré Zika, Lam Ibrahim and Tallou Mouzourane.
